TenTen’s LinkedIn Strategies for Financial Advisors

LinkedIn Tips: How to Get More Visibility & Engagement

LinkedIn is an underutilized platform for many financial advisors. If you're using LinkedIn for business, your focus should be on increasing visibility and driving traffic—to both your profile and your website. The best way to do that? Share valuable, relevant, and consistent content that actually helps your audience.

Building a strong presence takes time. You’re not going to see immediate results from every post, but over time, your content builds credibility, sparks interest, and keeps you top of mind. Here’s how to make your LinkedIn presence work harder for you:

1. Give Away Your Best Insights for Free

If you want to be seen as an expert, show that you are—don’t just say it.

Share “how-to” posts that break down your expertise.
Do you help tech executives avoid overpaying on their stock options? Walk them through common pitfalls and what they can do to avoid them. Giving away your knowledge for free not only builds trust but also helps you stand out.

Post short video clips with your unique take on industry trends.
No need for fancy editing—just be clear and conversational. Share valuable insights that your audience can take action on.

Take a stance on controversial topics.
A lot of advisors play it safe. If you want to stand out, have a clear point of view! Whether it's about the best approach to investing, financial planning trends, or common industry myths, stating a strong opinion makes your content more engaging.

Share frameworks, playbooks, and resources that people would actually pay for.
Don’t hold back—think about truly helping people. Share checklists, templates, and step-by-step guides that make your audience’s lives easier.

The more valuable your content, the more your audience will engage with it—and with you.

2. Keep Growing Your Network

A bigger network = more visibility. Simple as that. I see a lot of advisors with under 500 LinkedIn connections simply because they don’t add the people they already have relationships with on LinkedIn.

Make a habit of connecting with:
- People you already know

- Centers of Influence

- Potential clients in your niche

You don’t need to go overboard—just be intentional about adding new connections consistently.

3. Don’t Cold DM – Warm Up First

Some clients I work with like to do immediate cold outreach. They know LinkedIn can be a tool for business development and they want to see revenue come through it. I like to encourage these clients to first try to regularly post on LinkedIn and start building an audience before going the cold DM route. No one likes getting a random LinkedIn message from someone they don’t know. Instead of going straight for the pitch, build familiarity first.

  • Connect with prospects and engage with their content before messaging

  • Keep a running list of high-value prospects and interact with their posts

  • Comment on their updates, congratulate milestones, or share relevant insights

This makes your outreach feel natural, not spammy.

4. Comments, comments, comments!

Most people think LinkedIn growth = posting all the time. But commenting is even more effective for getting visibility for those with a smaller network.

  • Engage with posts from industry leaders your ideal clients follow

  • Add thoughtful comments (not just “Great post!”)

  • Comment 15 minutes before you post—this boosts engagement on your own content

5. Mix Personal & Professional Content

People engage with people—not corporate robots. Don’t be afraid to show a bit of personality in your posts.

  • Share real life experiences

  • Post personal stories when relevant

  • Be conversational in your writing

Even just adding a personal photo that actually connects to your post can make it feel more engaging and relatable. The key is making sure the personal element fits naturally with what you’re sharing.

6. Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile

Your profile should be clear, compelling, and easy to find.

  • Add a ‘Visit My Website’ link to drive traffic

  • Make your About Section client-focused. Answer:

    • What problems do you solve?

    • Why should people trust you?

  • Use the Featured Section to pin your best posts

Final Thoughts

Success on LinkedIn isn’t about posting constantly or going viral. It’s about posting intentionally and engaging with the right people. If you follow these steps consistently, you’ll see stronger engagement, more profile views, and better conversations with the right people.
